Description

AlphAlong is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. For the prevention and treatment of diseases caused by oxytetracycline sensitive bacteria in cattle, swine and sheep.

Indication

Cattle: For the treatment of pneumonia and shipping fever complex associated with Pasteurella spp. and Haemophilus spp.; infectious bovine keratoconjuctivitis (pink eye) caused by Moraxella bovis; foot rot and diphtheria caused by Fusobacterium necrophorum; bacterial enteritis (scours) caused by Escherichia coli; wooden tongue caused by Actinobacillus lignieresii; leptospirosis caused by Leptospira pomona; and wound infections and acute metritis caused by strains of staphylococci and streptococci organisms sensitive to oxytetracycline.

Swine: For the treatment of bacterial enteritis (scours, colibacillosis) caused by Escherichia coli; pneumonia caused by Pasteurella multocida; and leptospirosis caused by Leptospira pomona.

In sows, AlphAlong is indicated as an aid in the control of infectious enteritis (baby pig scours, colibacillosis) in suckling pigs caused by Escherichia coli.

Sheep: For the treatment of enzootic abortion, pneumonia. For the control of short term tick-borne fever, lamb tick sepsis, abscess, foot rot caused by Fusobacterium necrophorum, wound infections, postoperative infection, postpartum infection.

 

Usage and Dosage

Cattle: Administered by intramuscular, subcutaneous (SC, under the skin) or intravenous injection to beef cattle, dairy cattle, and calves, including pre-ruminating (veal) calves.

A single dosage of 0.1ml/ kg of body weight administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously is recommended in the treatment of the following conditions:

bacterial pneumonia caused by Pasteurella spp. (shipping fever) in calves and yearlings, where retreatment is impractical due to husbandry conditions, such as cattle on range, or where repeated restraint is inadvisable. Infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis (pink eye) caused by Moraxella bovis.

Swine: A single dosage of 0.1ml/ kg of body weight administered intramuscularly in the neck region is recommended in the treatment of bacterial pneumonia caused by Pasteurella multocida in swine, where re-treatment is impractical due to husbandry conditions or where repeated restraint is inadvisable.

For sows, administer once intramuscularly in the neck region 8-10ml approximately 8 hours before farrowing or immediately after completion of farrowing.

For disease prevention of piglet, administer this product at the 3rd day, 7th day, 21st day after birth with 0.5ml, 0.5ml, 1.0ml respectively.

Sheep: Administered intramuscularly by 0.1ml/ kg of body weight. The dosage for the treatment of lamb tick sepsis is 2ml.

Administered subcutaneously by single dosage of 0.01-0.035 ml/kg of body weight.

 

Warning

Discontinue treatment at least 28 days prior to slaughter of cattle and swine. Milk taken from animals during treatment and for 96 hours after the last treatment must not be used for food. Rapid intravenous administration may result in animal collapse. Oxytetracycline should be administered intravenously slowly over a period of at least 5 minutes.


Precautions

1. This product should be stored in tightly closed container and kept in a cool, dark and dry place. Avoid sunlight. Do not keep in metal containers.

2. Sometimes horse may occur gastroenteritis after injection, horse should be used with caution.

3. Livestock suffering from liver or kidney function severely damaged should avoid using.


Withdrawal Period

28 days for cattle, sheep, pig ; 7 days for discard time.
