Florfenicol

Pharmacological Action

Pharmacodynamics

Amphenicols antibiotics. Florfenicol has strong antibacterial activity on gram-positive bacteria, gram-negative bacteria and mycoplasma, etc. Florfenicol is a bacteriostatic agent that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the ribosomal 50S subunit. In vitro, the antibacterial activity of florfenicol is similar with/stronger than chloramphenicol and thiamphenicol. Some bacteria with chloramphenicol-resistant due to acetylation may still be sensitive to florfenicol, such as E. coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, etc. Hemolytic Pasteurella multocida, Pasteurella multocida and Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae is highly sensitive to florfenicol.

Pharmacokinetics

Florfenicol can be absorbed rapidly by intramuscular injection. Plasma concentration reached the treatment concentration about 1 hour after administration, and reached the peak plasma concentration about 1 to 3 hours. Bioavailability of 80% or more. Florfenicol is widely distributed in animals, can penetrate the blood brain barrier. The main drug discharged from the urine, a small amount of excreted with the feces.

Drug Interaction

(1)The target of macrolides and linocoramines is the same as the product, with

the bacterial ribosome 50S subunit combination, they can produce mutual antagonism in combination.

(2)The product may antagonize the bactericidal activity of penicillins or aminoglycosides. But has not yet been demonstrated in animals.

Indication

For the treatment of bacterial diseases in pigs and chickens, such as typhoid and paratyphoid that caused by pig infectious pleuropneumonia. It can also treat chicken cholera, chicken white diarrhea, E. coli disease, etc.
